School Bus Being Used For Target Practice
Table of contents for News Briefs
Did you know that there is a “Bus sized satellite” hurtling towards us right this minute? I had no idea because I don’t read the newspaper much anymore. But I am glad I did this Sunday morning!
And the article also says that the US military plans to shoot it down! I hope they get the driver out first! And if it happens to be painted yellow with big blinking lights on the top I’m afraid they might need another plan.
They want to shoot it down because there is “One thousand pounds of toxic fuel” on it. And it will crash in early March unless its natural life is cut short by a missile.
The Pentagon also says that if they miss it with the first shot there “May” be a second shot. So can we assume there will be a third shot if the second one misses? About how many shots are we talking about here? What’s the maximum number? These news stories never get to the important details.
For instance if (when) the missiles are fired and they miss then where do they go? Do they also come down and threaten human beings on the ground? And could we get an idea where that might be before the event?
Because I’m not really too concerned about a bus landing in the neighborhood. They fly by here all the time and you get used to them. But a guided missile with an explosive charge is another matter. I have no experience being on the receiving end of one of those.
And it’s a bit too late in life to learn about it.
I vote to let the bus land on its own. The Pentagon says if it does it will spread debris over several hundred miles.
If they shoot it down I bet it will break up into much smaller pieces. Is that a good thing? I don’t know. If I was a rocket scientist would I be sitting here doing this?

I believe we can do more in making the President’s vision for space exploration a reality by awarding cash prizes to encourage greater participation of the private sector in the national space program.
